Empowering Minority Muslim Girls

BHIWANDI

Bhiwandi's rapid growth is characterized by an influx of male Muslim migrants from various parts of India, drawn to work in its power loom industry despite facing challenging living and working conditions. The city manifests clear indicators of a developmental crisis, evidenced by its low literacy rate (79.48%) and skewed sex ratio (709 females/1000 males). With a majority Muslim population (56%) experiencing high levels of deprivation, access to essential urban services like water, sanitation, and energy remains poor. Additionally, there are pronounced digital disparities, particularly among Muslim women, elderly individuals, and migrant workers. In 2011, approximately 20% of the population in the Bhiwandi-Nizampur Municipal Corporation area was illiterate, while 42.43% resided in slums. Despite advancements in technology, functional literacy and digital proficiency remain limited, highlighting the urgent need for comprehensive intervention and support.

Our vision is to create a supportive and inclusive educational ecosystem that empowers girls from conservative and economically disadvantaged Muslim families to break barriers, achieve academic excellence, and become leaders in their communities. Through our efforts, we strive to transform Bhiwandi into a hub of educational empowerment, where every girl has the tools and resources she needs to thrive and make a positive impact on society.

Aims

To bridge the educational gap and empower girl students from orthodox and economically disadvantaged Muslim families by providing them with access to quality education, resources, and opportunities for personal and academic growth. Through targeted interventions and support, our aim is to break the cycle of poverty, promote gender equality, and cultivate a generation of confident, educated young women who are empowered to realize their aspirations and contribute positively to their communities and society as a whole.
